The Beginning

Bankeråt means bankrupt and it all started in 1989 when Jais decided to open up the café in Nansensgade. He soon faced a lot of practical problems and the opening days were postponed all the time. “You’ll go bankrupt” his friends joked – but they were wrong. The Café opened but the name stayed.

The art of Filip Jensen

Jais decorated Bankeråt with the help of different artists, and created the distorted univers, we familiarize Bankeråt with today. The artist, who has left the biggest mark on Bankeråt – and still does it – is the local artist Filip Jensen and his beast sculptures.

Jean-Yves takes over

After 12 years at Bankeråt, Jais chose to sell the place to his childhood friend, Jean-Yves, who has continued it in the same spirit.
